No External Devil in the Age to Come

The day I knew that Satan was not an external foe but an internal function of our own egoist consciousness changed the way I saw good and evil.

I had and still hear so much resistance to this concept because people want to blame an enemy that exists outside of themselves.

I was talking with a friend that was my spiritual mentor for most of the 1990’s. She was rebuking me tenderly by stating authoritatively, “Barbara, you cannot say there is no hell for I have been there. You cannot say there is no Devil for I have stood before him.”

I replied, “These things will appear externally as long as you need them to.”

The Old Testament chronologs the journey of an immature consciousness that needs rules, regulations and a God that would reflect mans own dual nature, one that loved and hated, rewarded and punished.

For human consciousness to evolve it needs to see an externalization of spiritual principles. Therefore we have an external God, a Devil, Heaven and Hell. But in reality, the Bible presents to us a spectacular view of our own internal landscape!
